Mortgage Rates have skyrocketed to their highest levels since August 2012, prompting some banks to increase the rate to 4% and beyond. On Friday, MBS (the mortgage backed securities that directly influence mortgage rates) tanked 62 basis points. That came after 26 basis points drop on Thursday. More bad news continued on Monday when long-term rate-indicative 10-year Treasury note yields touched 2 percent for the first time since April 2012. According to Mortgage Bankers Association, mortgage rates for California, Washington, Oregon and rest of the country rose sharply in the first week of 2013. California Mortgage Rates Edged Up Again Last Week
30 Year Fixed and 15 Year Fixed Mortgage Rates continue to edge up for California Refinance and Home Purchase borrowers. In the latest Freddie Mac survey, the 30 Year Fixed rates are at 3.41% with 0.7 points up from 3.37% last week. The 15 Year Fixed rates are at 2.72% with 0.6 points, up from 2.66%. Average 30 Year Fixed Mortgage Rates Continue To Be Under 3.5%
Both Freddie Mac and BankRate.com in its latest survey announced that the average 30 Year Fixed mortgage rates continue to be under 3.5%. While Freddie Mac reported a rate of 3.37% with 0.7 in points, BankRate.com reported 3.46%. Per Freddie Mac, rates went down 3 basis points from last week while Bankrate.com rates actually went up from last week.
